Before you start treatment with HIV medicine (called antiretroviral therapy or ART), your health care provider will order several baseline lab tests. You may start treatment or be referred for treatment before the test results are in. Your lab test results, along with your physical exam and other information you provide, will help you and your provider work together to manage your HIV care.
